# Step-by-Step Guide:

01 - Preheat the oven to 350°F. Grease a medium-sized baking dish with butter.
02 - Arrange half of the sliced potatoes evenly in the dish. Distribute half of the chopped onions, minced garlic, diced ham, and grated Gruyère over the potatoes. Season with salt, black pepper, thyme, and a pinch of nutmeg.
03 - Repeat the layering with the remaining potatoes, onions, ham, and cheese. Season again with salt, pepper, thyme, and nutmeg.
04 - Pour the heavy cream evenly over the entire layered dish. Dot the surface with remaining butter.
